The pearls
in the map
Ten findings from the Top-30 U.S. military and veteran creator report, built to be read in a meeting. Open a pearl, tick it when the team has talked it through, then test yourselves at the bottom. Every number traces back to the report and its linked sources.
Ten pearls
Each card has the one-line hook, the finding behind it, and a "so what" for a recruiting or comms team. Order roughly tracks how surprising each one is.
Leaderboard
The ten rows the report calls out. Sort by any column, filter by niche. The bar is total tracked followers scaled to the leader.

The full 30-row dataset with per-platform counts, engagement, and lifetime views lives in Military_Influencer_Map_2026.xlsx. GOV marks a documented DoD or government tie.
Evidence room
The three charts that carry most of the argument.
Engagement ≠ size
Instagram engagement rate for the accounts the report names, against the set median of 1.02%. Hover a bar.
Reach outruns followers
Active-duty short-video creators report monthly reach far beyond their follower count. Bars share one scale (50M = full width).
Niche economics
Average Instagram engagement by niche, plus who is growing on YouTube right now.
Program status board
Where formal Department of Defense creator programs stand as of the report date.
Army soldier-influencer pilot
Paused for legal review. Johnny Vargas and Tyler Butterworth were part of it; Austin von Letkemann joined the Army trial program and the 250th-birthday parade.
Planned Army creator partnership
Collapsed over legal concerns, with monetization a central issue. The pay-and-side-hustle question is unresolved.
Air Force × Sam Eckholm
Recruiting partnership with the veteran creator renewed and extended to the Space Force. The clearest working model in the set.
Creators into government roles
Dakota Meyer is a special assistant to the Secretary of War. Joey Jones reenlisted to work on Pentagon EOD policy. Dan Crenshaw lost his March 2026 primary.
Government ties
Thirteen of thirty creators have a documented tie to DoD or another government body. The report names these seven.
Caveat ledger
Read these before anyone quotes a number outside the room.
Where the counts come from
Social Blade pages for Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, plus public x.com profiles, read 15 October 2026. A few gaps were filled from Feedspot rankings dated August–October 2026. Blank cells in the spreadsheet mean the count could not be verified.
The 98.5M total double-counts
Someone who follows a creator on Instagram and YouTube is counted twice. Treat it as a size-of-footprint figure, not unique humans.
Reach figures are unaudited
The 35–45M and ~50M monthly reach numbers are self-reported or reported by news outlets. Nobody has independently verified them.
Sponsor detections are unconfirmed
Anything sourced from SponsorRadar or CreatorDB is marked "unconfirmed" in the dataset.
Niche labels are the author's judgment
Motivation, policy, humor, lifestyle and veteran advocacy were assigned by hand. Reasonable people could re-bin a few creators.
One deliberate exclusion
Tyler Valenzia was left out because of a reported 2026 indictment. The charges are allegations, not findings.
